how will we remember you?

the last few weeks has exposed us to the unexpected deaths of several celebrities, including: michael jackson, farrah fawcett, and billy mays. this weekend we were met with yet another untimely death. steve mcnair, nfl all-pro quarterback, was found shot to death in his condominium. and while there are so many things to celebrate about “air” mcnair the unfortunate circumstances around his death (he was found dead next to his “girlfriend” although he was still married) reveal perhaps another side of our beloved all-pro quarterback. now conversations and articles that discuss his accomplishments, simultaneously discuss his affair and past run-ins with the law.
you see, the chances are slim that we will know when we will die, but we do know now that the perceptions/expectations people have of us (our brand) are largely a sum of the decisions and actions we take. the best way to ensure that we are remembered the way we desire is to make purposeful actions/decisions that reinforce the perceptions/expectations we want people to have of us. so while i will celebrate the life of steve mcnair, his death brings me to one question: when your time comes, how will we remember you?
