a brand is not a separate thing

Blog. Love this article. Not because it said anything new to me but because it made me rethink my approach. Today I will think differently when I talk strategy than I did yesterday

i love this article.  the simple truth within it is that: “everything and everyone in the marketstream is connected.”  the article goes on to say, ” in order to describe a particular brand-what it is-you must describe its behavior-what it does.  and to describe what it does, you must describe it-and all activities associated with it- in relationship to its customers and its customers’ behavior. what the brand is and how it evolves is what the customers are and how they evolve. a brand, therefore, is one, interdependent system of behavior.  it is not a separate thing.”

i love it; not because it said anything new to me, but because it made me (re)think.  today and tomorrow i will look at my strategy and brand building approaches through a different lens.

all good points. I would also suggest thinking of a brand as a living entity – describe its personality as well as its behaviors. If you can picture it in your mind then the branding group is probably doing a good job. It may or may not be someone you'd want to spend time with, but that's OK, because you may not be in their target audience.

@shirley i couldn’t agree more. brands must absolutely define their personality and then make sure that all of their activities are a reflection of this persona. i’m actually planning on doing a post on this shortly. thanks for taking the time to comment.
