one way to find your purpose

one way to identify your purpose/mission in life is to simply ask yourself:

“what makes you cry when you see it?” although quite simple, you will find that the answers can be quite revealing.  why?  because not only are we all unique, but we are all unique for a reason. there are problems that exist that you are uniquely designed to impact. have you ever wondered why you and your friends can walk past a homeless person on the street and, while your friends continue on to your destination, you feel the need to go back and leave $5?  or, why, despite wanting your own children you feel compelled to adopt someone else’s as well?  stop and listen, the little voice in your heart may be trying to tell you something.

personally, one of my biggest issues is wasted potential.  hence, my personal mission to maximize potential in people and business. in fact,  i was inspired to do this post today when a friend of mine shared this video on facebook that tore me to pieces. my initial reaction was that i wanted to quit my job and do something about it.  no physical tears, but the heartbreak and emotion are still very much present.

so, do you know the answer? what is it that, when you see it, tears your heart apart (whether you physically cry tears or not).  is it poverty? is it global warming? perhaps it has to do with educational or health disparities?  ask yourself the question, you just may find the answer to a much larger question.

is it shallow if it isn't something that has do with world issues? or are u saying that we all have a potential to impact those things?

at the end of the day you will have to define that for yourself. i cannot tell you what is or isn't part of your purpose. can you give me an example of something that makes you cry that is not a world issue?

my personal belief is that too often we get caught up in magnitude. if we aren't changing the world it isn't big enough. but i believe that impact happens on all levels. it happens between father and son, teacher and student, boss and employee, etc. another thing that “makes me cry” has to do with the lack of strong father/son relationships. does that mean that i will start a non-profit to help resolve that issue? not necessarily. but i have already (prior to even being married) made a commitment to be the best father on the planet. my children will be a part of my purpose and who knows what impact they will have on the earth. does that help?
