rejection inspiration

last week i was rejected by seth godin for his nano mba program.  maybe it’s because i already have an mba.  maybe it’s because my company doesn’t meet the criterion of being an organization that makes the world a better place (or i did a bad job of trying to convince them it is).  or maybe it’s because my applications sucked because i wrote them at 4am the day of.  regardless, being rejected reminds me of three things:

  1. never take it personal. who knows what happened behind closed doors.  in a lot of instances like these it’s about making the perfect group – it doesn’t mean you aren’t perfect, it just means you aren’t perfect for the group.  it’s a black box, don’t waste time beating yourself up too badly.
  2. rejection is awesome inspiration. it’s the perfect catalyst to fire you into what my boy, dre, calls beast mode (i’m sure the definition is self-explanatory).  there is nothing like someone telling you that you can’t to make you want to prove (at least to yourself) that you can.  seth knows this, so he actually prompted us rejects to achieve greatness and brag about how seth didn’t pick us.  love it.  say no more.  great things…coming.  bragging…stay tuned.
  3. UPDATE: you’re in good company. many greats have been rejected: warren buffet, tom brokaw, ted turner, you name it. you’re in great company once you’ve been rejected.  now you just have to join the ranks of those who were rejected and overcame!  good luck!  (thanks babygirl4lyfe06 for sharing)

I love your perspective on embracing the “rejection” that is nothing more than a progression towards your ultimate goal(s). Can't wait to see what comes next!
