Manhood used to be something that was earned. Our boys were trained, tested and, if they passed, anointed as men. That’s because we used to understand the a core truth: while boys are born, #RealMen have to be made. But in today’s day and age, we are simply not “making” enough men. Consequently, our boys drift into adulthood adopting false notions of manhood that have more to do with life-stage and lifestyle than real manhood.
The #RealMen project was birthed to address this problem. Although the vision is big, I had to start somewhere. So I started with a radio show because it was once said the majority of men and women have ever heard a real man talk. So what better way to begin bringing the idea to life than through an audio format where men, and the women who have to deal with us, can hear the truth about what #realmen sound like. The show brings together some of the best men I can find to discuss personal stories, address the issues men wrestle with, pass on lessons learned, answer questions and define what it means to be #realmen.
